Generator Maintenance
Yearly oil, plugs, battery, load test, firmware and simulated outage. The generator nobody serviced is the one that won't start.
Signs you need it
- Over a year since the last service
- Runs its weekly exercise, never been serviced
- You want to keep the warranty valid
- You'd rather we remember for you
How the install goes
- Yearly visit, ideally before fire season
- Oil, filters, plugs, battery, load test
- Firmware and app check
- Written notes on what we did and what to watch
What moves the price
- Whole-home backup or essentials only
- Generator kW, or battery kWh and unit count
- Gas line (by a licensed plumber) and concrete pad
- Transfer switch or gateway type, and where it mounts
- Tying in existing solar
- Permit fees, plus utility interconnection for batteries
Permits for backup power
Generators and batteries need a permit and inspection. Batteries add a utility interconnection application, approved at the utility's pace. We file it, line up gas work, and itemize the fees.
Brands we install
Brand names and logos are trademarks of their owners and are shown to identify the equipment we install and service. Chief Electric installs and services Generac, Kohler and Cummins equipment. Chief Electric is an independent contractor and is not affiliated with these manufacturers.

Backup power questions
How often does a generator need service?
Yearly, or every 200 run hours, whichever comes first.
Can you send a generator service reminder?
Yes. Ask when you book and you're on the yearly list.
Do you charge for the quote?
No. An electrician looks at the job in person and quotes it, free.
