Outlets & Circuits

New outlets, 240 volt circuits, three-prong upgrades, and power for RVs, hot tubs, heat pumps, garages, sheds and ADUs, all permitted.

The induction range is on the truck, and nothing behind the stove can power it. Heat pumps, ranges, dryers, hot tubs, EV chargers and RV hookups each need a dedicated circuit, with GFCI or AFCI protection where code calls for it.

Load check first, then we fish the wire with minimal drywall damage. Panel full? Tandem breakers and subpanels come up before anyone says upgrade.

Outlet and circuit work

Signs you need more circuits

  • Adding a big appliance or going gas to electric
  • Extension cords that never went back in the drawer
  • Two-prong outlets, no ground
  • Garage, shed, workshop or ADU needs power

How the job goes

  1. Load check. We confirm the panel can carry it, or lay out options if not.
  2. Plan the route. Attic, crawlspace or wall, whichever path is cleanest and to code.
  3. Install. Right wire, breaker, protection and box for the equipment.
  4. Test and inspect. Tested on site, then city or county inspection when required.

What outlets and circuits cost

JobTypical range
Heat pump or mini-split circuit$900 to $2,100
Induction range circuit$850 to $1,900
Hot tub, spa or ADU feeder$1,600 to $4,800
Battery-ready circuit and space$1,000 to $2,800

Outlets in local homes

Gas-to-electric remodels and SMUD and other utility rebates, when offered, keep heat pump calls climbing. Loomis, Penryn, Wilton, Rescue and foothill lots need long trenches. ADUs are common in Sacramento, Davis and Roseville.

Outlet and circuit questions

How much does it cost to add a 240 volt circuit?

Typically: heat pump circuit $900 to $2,100, induction range circuit $850 to $1,900, hot tub or ADU feeder $1,600 to $4,800. Distance from the panel drives it. Prices updated October 2026.

Can I replace two-prong outlets with three-prong outlets?

Yes, if grounded or protected. A labeled GFCI outlet or breaker works on an ungrounded circuit, or we run a ground.

Do I need a permit to add an outlet or circuit?

Usually yes for new circuits and extensions in California. Like-for-like swaps, no.

My panel is full. Can I still add a circuit?

Often yes, with tandem breakers, a subpanel or combined circuits. If not, you get upgrade prices.
