Childproof Outlets

Tamper-resistant outlets have shutters that admit only a plug. Safer than plastic caps, which kids learn to pull out.

Signs it's time

  • A baby or toddler on the move
  • Grandkids who visit
  • Plastic caps in every outlet
  • Licensing for daycare or in-home care

How the job goes

  1. Count outlets at toddler height
  2. Swap in tamper-resistant outlets
  3. Add GFCI where needed while we're at it
  4. Test every one

What moves the price

  • Number of fixtures, devices or spots
  • Power nearby, or a new circuit
  • Ceilings, walls, attic access, patching
  • Your fixtures or ours
  • Permits: usually for new circuits, usually not for straight swaps

Permits for this work

Straight swaps usually need no permit. New circuits and outdoor, hot tub, pool, heat pump or range wiring usually do. The fee shows on your quote.

Questions we hear

Do tamper-resistant outlets look different?

Barely. Standard white or ivory, with shutters inside.

Can the whole house be done in one visit?

Usually. It takes a few hours.

Do you charge for the quote?

No. An electrician looks at the job in person and quotes it, free.
