Smart Panels

A smart panel like SPAN shows each circuit in an app and sheds load, which can avoid a bigger service.

Signs your panel or wiring needs attention

  • You want to see what each circuit draws
  • You want to pick what your battery runs in an outage
  • The utility's service upgrade has a long lead time
  • EV charger wanted on a 100 or 125 amp service

How the job goes, start to finish

  1. Review current loads and planned additions
  2. Install the smart panel under permit
  3. Connect battery, solar or EV charger
  4. Set up the app with you before leaving

What moves the price

  • Amperage: same as now, 200 amps, or 400 amps
  • Separate meter and main, or a combined unit
  • Utility rules for the mast, meter socket and service entrance
  • How many circuits move or extend to the new panel
  • Grounding, bonding and surge protection up to current code
  • City permit fees, which vary

Permits for panel and wiring work

Panel and service work needs a permit and a city or county inspection. Meter work also needs a utility disconnect, on the utility's schedule and fees. Each fee is listed separately.

Panel and wiring questions

Is a smart panel worth it?

Often, with a battery or to dodge a service upgrade. Just need breakers? A standard panel costs less.

Does a smart panel work with solar?

Usually. SPAN works with most inverters and batteries, and we check yours before quoting.

Do you charge for the quote?

No. An electrician looks at the job in person and quotes it, free.
