Dead Outlets & Switches

A dead outlet is often a tripped GFCI in another room or a failed backstab connection. We trace it.

Signs it's more than a fluke

  • Outlet dead, no breaker tripped
  • A switch that does nothing
  • Dead outlets on an outside wall or in the garage
  • Loose outlet, or plugs that fall out

What we do when we get there

  1. Check GFCIs in baths, kitchen, garage and outside
  2. Test the dead device and those upstream
  3. Replace failures with commercial-grade devices
  4. Confirm grounding and protection meet code

What moves the price

  • One device, or wiring inside the walls
  • Access: attic, crawlspace, or drywall to open and patch
  • Age and type of your wiring and panel
  • Whether a permit is required
  • Parts: same-for-same, or upgraded to current code

Permits for repair work

Like-for-like repairs usually skip permits. Panel swaps, new circuits and inspection fixes usually need one.

Repair questions we hear a lot

Why is one outlet dead when the breaker is fine?

Daisy-chaining. Outlets feed each other in a line, so one bad connection kills everything after it.

Should I replace all the outlets in my house?

If they're loose, cracked or two-prong, yes. We can price a whole-house swap.

Do you charge for the visit?

Repairs start with a flat diagnostic fee, quoted when you book and waived on any repair over $500. Quotes for installs and upgrades are free.
